In keeping with our attempts to step up our game a bit, our focus as a stunt team this week was ironically making ourselves less effective. As those who study combat know, individual fights are over in seconds. Cinematic conflicts, on the other hand, tend to drag. Understandably, this is important for building dramatic tension, but it also means that our stunties, who were taught real combat, are having to dial it back even further, and be less efficient in combat.
We ran several exercises, and reviewed other movie fights to compare and contrast the styles and techniques used. (Stunties heckling movie fights: a venerable tradition.) We'll see how they apply what they've learned as this experiment continues.
