Cataloging Collections

Greetings, one and all! Well, this week has basically amounted to a long string of “Found it!” moments. For starters, a team member finally found the kind of elastic we’ll need to hold various armor pieces together, like the articulated plate just below the wrist of the vambraces. On top of that, we’ve finally dug up the right kind of gloves for use as the base of the gauntlets for said armor.
Speaking of digging things up, we began cataloging the weapons, armor, and period style props and set dressing we have access to.

This way we know what we have, and what we’ll need for the next project. We hope to get to the costumes later this week.
We’ve also made steps with the armor. First by crafting paired curved plates to protect the elbows, and later adding a thinner plate to the pauldrons to further protect the upper arm. (Said plates are the red things in the background.)

So we’ve been keeping busy this week, breathing lots of dust from props left unused since 2013. I hope to get a promo short written and shot by the end of the summer, but it remains to be seen what will come of that. Summarizing the feel of this new script is hard with a tight timeframe and budget. Plus, of course, coronavirus restrictions still haunt the state…

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Bigger Fights and Smaller Sets

Greetings, one and all! True to form, as real life returns, life gets stranger. But, despite that, we managed to get a fair bit done. First off, the stunt team is finally fully back! After a few weeks of limited interaction, everyone’s back together, doing what they do. We opened with a round robin dueling session, followed by a quick choreography scenario.

Next up, we have the production work. Lacking materials for the next pieces of armor, and being unable to find them on various outings, we’ve turned to making scale models of some of the set pieces for our hoped-for future project. To economize, we’re planning to have modular wall sections that can be reoriented to make various locations.

Last but not least, we’ve finally got the stunt kindjal scales tinted about the right color to match their steel counterparts.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

The Great Return to Reality

Greetings, one and all! This last week marked an important milestone on the path back from the madness of these last few months. In our first ever house call, we went down to Roseburg for our annual fifth grade historical immersion swordplay class.

As both counties fell safely within the Phase 2 reopening criteria, there was no issue with getting this in before the year officially ended. A good time was had by all, and sources say the class still hasn’t stopped talking about it.

This week has also seen another important step. We’ve managed to turn the mistakes of last week into a semi-serviceable bracer. Now we just need to find some heavy black elastic…

Last but not least, we are less than a week away from the full reopening of our stunt team. With the reopening of the state, we can now move beyond family group training partners, though there will still be some limitations. This week the team flexed their sparring and choreography muscles, preparing for the return to business.

It’s strange to be back, after months of something like suspended animation. Hopefully everything will continue to progress well, and we’ll be able to show you more of what we’re working on as it does.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!
