Taught to Fly

Hello, everyone! This week was a bit of a shake-up. First off, I'm having to radically re-work the progress that was made on the script, which is okay, because it'll be better for it. Just slightly frustrating.
The other big change was that this is the first week where the entire session was run by the team, with only minimal input from me. They devised a mercenaries versus guards fight scene on their own, and made it very energetic.

So I think the week has come out at a net win.

Well, that's about all for now. Until next time!

Caution: Mad Writer at Work

Yeah... that's a pretty good summary of the week. Struck with inspiration, I've been throwing a lot of time and energy into writing a kinda crazy first draft of a script. I'm currently about half-way through, (or a third, if it runs long,) and things have gone remarkably well, at least as compared to other more recent attempts. It's good to be back in action.
In keeping with our attempts to step up our game a bit, our focus as a stunt team this week was ironically making ourselves less effective. As those who study combat know, individual fights are over in seconds. Cinematic conflicts, on the other hand, tend to drag. Understandably, this is important for building dramatic tension, but it also means that our stunties, who were taught real combat, are having to dial it back even further, and be less efficient in combat.

We ran several exercises, and reviewed other movie fights to compare and contrast the styles and techniques used. (Stunties heckling movie fights: a venerable tradition.) We'll see how they apply what they've learned as this experiment continues.

Well, that's about all for now. Until next time!

Now, Where Were We... ?

Well, a new week, and the gig has been finalized and delivered to its rightful owner. Now we turn our focus to other things. Sunday was a record breaking stunt meet, with many stunties we haven't seen in a while, and some new guests showing up as well. While the focus is usually on stunt work, as this generation may also have to teach swordplay, this time we taught the vital skills of learning distance and timing... before it devolved into a brawl.

Afterward, the team brainstormed where we could look for students for the aforementioned swordplay class, as well as what locations would be viable for teaching said class.
Also, writing is back on the docket, and some decent progress has been made in the last couple days. Given that this new idea actually has more than just a beginning floating around in my head, I'm hoping that means it will actually go somewhere. Time will tell...

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Crunch Time

As I write this, there are less than 24 hours until the GHS short deadline, and we are rendering the last round of test edits. It has been a wild sprint, but now we're almost there. Final approvals should be today, and sometime after next week the final product should be showing up on the Gateways High School web site. Until then, it's just a matter of optimizing the renders for their various showing formats. So, back to work. :-)

Until next time!

Gig Shoot Complete!

Hello, one and all! Last we spoke, we were in the middle of our gig shoot. Now we bring you the outcome of that day. Our team met on the damp and chilly morning to set up for the cast from Gateways. The kids arrived, and after a short briefing, we swung into action.

The kids were great, and really threw themselves into the process. All the prep paid off, and we actually finished slightly ahead of schedule. The week since has been occupied with the edit and refinement process. Soon the draft will be turned over to our client for review, then we shall see what we shall see...

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!
