The Big Reveal (at Last)!

“Two siblings are sent by the mad trade baron Dalen Whythe to the ruined island of Belleros, forgotten home of a fallen empire. There, they must find a lost artifact to repay their parents’ debt. On this island of monsters and cutthroats, they will find their freedom, or die in the attempt.”

Thus goes the plot for the tentatively titled “The Nine Isles: Chaos Crown”, a feature length high fantasy production we will be shooting this summer.
This is easily one of the largest projects we’ve ever embarked upon, particularly on a logistical level. While Gatewalkers was longer, Chaos Crown features a large and colorful cast, which is both the story's primary charm, and the production’s primary nightmare, as we have to schedule shoot days with many people who all have very different work schedules. Madness, you say? Why, naturally. But we’re doing it, all the same.

Now that you know this, the news of the weeks going forward will make a lot more sense. Hot on the heels of last week’s readings, we dove into the first actor fight training day.

All told, we were on the job for about six hours, which is pretty intense, but it’s a rare thing to have so many actors available at the same time, so we seized the moment.

It’s a crazy path we have ahead of us, with many obstacles in our way, but we’ve assembled one of our largest casts ever during the year of a pandemic and lockdowns, so nothing seems entirely impossible, these days.

We’ll see you all next week, but until then… Onward!

Actors Assemble!

Greetings, one and all! Well, it would seem things have finally kicked off. This blog week saw not one but two cast practice sessions, along with the arrival of some much-needed costuming material.

On top of that, we’ve finally been able to cut the blanks for our new stunt weapons. Though there are some (not pictured here) that we may need to try again. We shall see…

Last but not least, the team met for further training, including the most important aspect of the stuntie’s trade: How to die.

We have the first actor fight training scheduled for this Friday. Hopefully we’ll get some good pics from that.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Fists, Knees, and Futurity

Greetings, one and all! The saga continues with a big announcement: By the time you’re reading this, we’re probably at the first cast reading for our new project! Five of our major cast members will be getting together to workshop several of their shared scenes. It’s a big moment, one that we haven’t had in a long time, due to many last minute castings. Being a low budget project, this is the one thing we can do to up the quality of the film. The more familiar your cast is with the material and each other, the better your final product.

Next up, the team met on Sunday, and taught the new members how to punch stuff. Oh, and knee it, too.

On top of that, the new band saw has arrived, so we’ve spent some time cutting out stunt blades. Boy, are there a lot of them still to go…

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Research and Revisions

Greetings, one and all! So… what got done this week? Research. Lots and lots of research. Everything from barrel-making to band saws. My search history is now quite eclectic, but definitely centers on the “how to” section of the internet. Just for widely differing centuries.

On top of that, the team met this week, and worked on another iteration of the big fight scene, bringing up the intensity of some of the back and forth of the fight.

A short update for a very busy week, but progress has been made, nonetheless.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Establishing the Core

Greetings, one and all! Well, here we are, with almost all of the major roles cast! First off, we welcome Libby Kluttz and Moriah Dahlgren as the staff of the film’s central locale, and Davin Dahlgren as the chief antagonist of our lead pair.

Speaking of… in other good news, our lead pairing has finally been cast! Breonna North joins Micah Wilcox to complete the sibling duo.

We still have one very major and a couple important supporting roles to go, but things are certainly coming together.

In other news, the team met again, and this time worked on the use of the spear… Also known as the fine art of trying to not impale yourself on your opponent’s weapon.

Lastly, we’ve been working on some of the stunt weapons this week, but lacking some important tools has led to it being something of a mixed bag. All told, it might be better to wait until said tools get replaced. On top of that, we've been going through the cloth and costume elements we have on hand, to see what we still have to either acquire or make.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!
