Music Comes to the Universe

Greetings, one and all! This week marks an important transition in the filmmaking process. Thursday, we went on video chat with the bright and enthusiastic individual who would very soon become our composer on STORMBORN. Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce Miss Elie Pleticha!

Elie has worked on several short form projects, including an Abundant House short, and a handful of LCC entries, but this will be her first long form project. While she has a couple projects to wrap, before giving the series her full attention, we are still discussing musical themes and inspirations for the universe. I think it’s safe to say that we’re both looking forward to this collaboration. Welcome aboard, Elie!

Now that we have a composer, my primary job is finalizing the first few episodes, so that we can send them off to her. Given the long render times of these effects intensive episodes, that has made for a very busy week.

In stuntie news, Sunday saw the team meet to exercise their skills in archery. Starting out with basic target practice, and culminating in a simple archer’s exchange.

Funny enough, some people who struggled with form and technique while shooting at a target got much better when someone was shooting at them. Who knew, eh?

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Effects for Eight

Greetings, one and all! Now that we’re finally out of the painting job, our focus has again turned fully to the series. A significant re-edit of a scene in Episode 5 improved its pace, and work on the remaining establishing shots continues to flesh out the world. On top of all that, we're now doing effects work for Episode 8! After a lot of time agonizing over the complicated edit, at long last we’ve finally commenced effects and color correction.

What’s more, we’ve finally been able to turn our attention to finding a composer. While the process has to stay under wraps, for now, I can say that I am cautiously optimistic.
Sunday, the team met again, and worked on linebreaker exercises. Trying to punch through a spear line with sword and shield.

The results were predictably messy, but lessons were learned, on all sides.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Varied Horizons

Greetings, one and all! As predicted, this week has been largely occupied with painting, though I have managed to squeeze in some sound and effects work. For starters, we’ve been working on several establishing shots, along with a very particular plot relevant effect for the Hunter’s ship. On top of that, there was a color re-balance, as some scenes were showing up a bit “hot.”

Sunday, the team met to learn about all things spear-related, but specifically the parts where you try to not get killed by them.

What followed was yet another good workout, with sword- and spear-wielding stunties chasing each other around the trees. I think I can say that they all made good progress on not getting “bitten” by the spear, while closing for the counter-strike.

Well, that’s about it for this week. Until next time!
