Blasters, Goblins, and ADR

Greetings, one and all! Well, let's see... what did this week look like. Well, for starters, we finally assembled the elements of Hunter's ship. Now we need to move into detailing and painting. Next up, we finally finished the animations on the forest battle scene, and started into the sniper shot.

Then, of course, there's Sunday. Having finished dagger training, the stunt team returned to its roots, and began a multi-stage choreography and analysis exercise, involving goblins and a couple mercenaries.

They will follow up by breaking it down this coming Sunday, and refining it further.

Tuesday was a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one. Monday night, we got word that our lead actress was available the next day, so we quickly arranged things, and pulled her in for her first ADR session.

Despite the difficult sections, she did quite well, and cleared out the bulk of the scenes in one sitting. All in all, a very productive day.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Animating Arboreal Altercations

Greetings, one and all! Keeping with the theme of late, this week was divided into three distinct streams.
First, we’ve spent time animating the forest firefight from Episode 6. This is new to me, because it’s also the first time the object I’ve been manipulating has been in 3D space, which makes aligning it with the 2D video of someone running and firing challenging, to say the least.

Second, we’re still working through the ship models, though a complication with the engines on the Hunter’s ship has slowed that a little.
Lastly, on Sunday, the team met for their final instruction in core dagger plays. After that, we had them choreograph fight scenes, using what they’d learned from the preceding weeks.

The fights were each unique, with plenty of energy. All in all, I’d say it was a resounding success.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Ship Shape

Greetings, one and all! This week was an interlacing of various tasks, both film-related, and otherwise. First off, the Hunter's ship is, quite literally, taking shape. It's been an adventure figuring out how, exactly, we need to make each piece, so they will come together properly.

Secondly, on Sunday, the stunt team met to continue learning the fine art of dagger plays. They made good progress, despite the complexity of the maneuvers.

Lastly, we have also been working on a behind-the-scenes look at the process of making the series. Specifically, a series of videos, starting with the creation of the armor. Our 2nd AD is spearheading that, but the main  post-production crew consults and assists, as needed.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Of Ships and Daggers

Greetings, one and all! This week saw the completion of phase one sound syncing. However, the sheer number of people in helmets we have, coupled with the fact that the last episode and a half take place in a noisy park, and under a waterfall, shows us that we have a lot of ADR (additional dialog recording) and dubbing to do. Most of the sound sync was simply so our actors have something to reference when they re-record their dialog.

Sunday saw the stunt team meet for a lesson in dagger plays. They did well, but the technical finesse required means we'll be returning to that next week, as well.

With the rough edit together, and a lull until we can get the actors in for recording, our efforts have turned toward model-making. In this case, we're working on the ships of the series.

It's a slower process, as this kind of model-making is new to me, but it's refreshing to build something again, after so many weeks in front of the computer.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Happy New Year!

Greetings, one and all! With the holiday season over, and the seasonal bug mostly behind us, we have swung back into gear, finishing off the edit on episodes 7 and 8, and begun sound sync.

Sunday, the team returned from break to relearn the fine art of rolls and diving rolls.

Suitably dizzy, they then turned their hands to a much lower impact exercise...
All in all, not bad, for something of a half-week.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!
