Framing and Flurries

Greetings, one and all! So, this week has been fun. No, seriously, once I got through the tedium of rotoscoping out some characters, the color correction and reframing of shots has been quite pleasant. We’re still deep in that process for the first two blocks, but here’s a bit of a teaser. Some color work still to do…

On Sunday the stunt team met, and this time focused on the process of thinking through a string of attacks and counters.

It definitely required a lot more thought, but the exercise worked as intended, and hopefully we’ll be able to expand the team’s capacity for handling the barrage as we go.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Coming Back Around

Greetings, one and all! This week saw the sound syncing and fine edit for the final block of The Nine Isles. Then I realized that the Spire sequence had taken so long that I’d forgotten to do the fine edit on the preceding scene in that block, so I dashed back to do that, along with syncing up some so-called “wild lines,” which are on-location dialog that’s been recorded without corresponding footage.

If the current process is any indication, there will probably be an additional audio pass to get all the levels equal after all the effects work. Which brings me to the kinda crazy bit of news, to my own ears. This is the part where I go back to the very beginning, and start the process of color correction and effects work.

This will run concurrently with ADR sessions with the actors, now that I’ll know what needs to be fixed, and hopefully some modelmaking for the establishing shots.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Rough Edit Complete!

Greetings, one and all! It is with great pleasure that I announce that the rough edit has been completed for The Nine Isles: Chaos Crown! There’s still a long way to go, and even these final blocks still need a sound sync, but the overall structure of the story has been laid in, and after the sound sync, it’s on to the many layers of refinements.

On top of that, the stunt team met again this Sunday, and since we had some surprise snow in April, we retreated indoors for a dagger precision exercise…

This was followed quickly by another evasion exercise, and capped off with some swinging blade silliness.
All in all, a good and productive week.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Sound, Skirmishes, and Evasion

Greetings, one and all! Well, sound sync is going fairly well. Despite a busy week, we still managed to get shoots 1, 2, 4, and 5 synced. This only leaves shoots 6 and 7 remaining. While there will need to be some ADR (Additional Dialog Recording) and Foley (cloth swooshed, footsteps, blade hits, etc.) recorded for this sequence, the sync will help us see what’s needed.

Sunday, pretty much the whole team was back, and we warmed up with an agility and evasion exercise in the tradition of the great martial arts movies. This was then followed by some skirmishing, as the exercise from last week showed that people were getting a tad rusty…

They actually did quite well with the evasion exercise, ironically enough, particularly the people who weren’t expecting to. All in all, a good week.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!
