The Ask and the Axe

Greetings, one and all! As can be expected, the rest of the week after our last blog post was filled with Christmas preparation and celebration. However, come Monday we hit the ground running, with four readings scheduled for this week. One has already passed, and the rest are centered around New Years’ Day.

There was a period of waiting for some of the week, and that was filled with making patterns for the new stunt weapons that will be needed for the big fight scene.

A highlight of this batch being a goblin weapon that can fill the role of a short sword or an axe, depending on the needs of the scene.
So a slower week, as is to be expected given the holiday, but we're off to a good start again. In just a week and a half, we'll be welcoming new stunties to the team...

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Hammering It Out

Greetings, one and all! Well, this week has been a good mix of progress. A string of rejections were quickly followed by a half dozen people confirming interest in trying out for the upcoming project. Hopefully we’ll be able to get those readings in before the new year.

On top of just trying to find people, the rest of the week has been filled in with more readings, and continuing work on the props.

With supply chain issues thanks to the lockdowns this year, certain materials have become scarcer, so we’re looking into alternative solutions. Stunt weapons must meet very precise requirements, so finding comparable materials with widely different compositions is challenging. That said, much like I never thought I would pay so much attention to people’s ears before Gatewalkers, I never thought I would pay so much attention to what plastics melt, become fibrous, or just flake under friction…

Next up, the stunt team met before the Christmas break to try out a new fall.

It’s been a while, so everyone was pretty sore by the end, and one particular member was planning exercises for over the break so they’d be ready for next time… Next time being in three weeks, when we bring on a new batch of stunties.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Merry Christmas!

Trying and Training

Greetings, one and all! Well, we’re back at it. Two more readings, a third one scheduled, and three or four potential new stunt team members. Looks like we’re finally getting up a modest head of steam on this project.

With new team members joining soon, our most recent generation is undergoing a vital bit of education: Teaching them how to troubleshoot technique. How? Well, the more veteran members adopt classic examples of bad swordplay form, and the newer members must determine what they’re doing wrong, and how to correct it. This gives them experience in not only communicating proper technique, but also self-analysis. As the saying goes, we learn most when we teach.

Last but not least, we continue with making safety weapons for the film. In this case, we’re working on a war hammer head…

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

So It Begins...

Greetings, one and all! Well, we’ve officially crossed the threshold. Ladies and gentlemen, this week we had our first reading!

It was a great first experience in the process, and we hope to have more in the near future.
While we haven’t had stunt meet for the last couple weeks, we’ve been reaching out to people for casting, production, and joining the stunt team. It's both exciting and overwhelming, in equal measure.

There are still some supply problems that have slowed the crafting side of pre-production, but we roll on, one way or another.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!
