Chimes of Change

 So... yeah, that happened.

For the few of you that still don't know, I got married this week. Or, rather, two of us here at Brightsword Productions did, and the whole team was there.

Naturally this means I'll be away from the office for a little while, but since I made the decision to post weekly when this blog got started, I see no reason to break with that decision. To paraphrase a certain guard captain, once you make exceptions for good reasons, you open the door to a bunch of bad reasons. So we are continuing to post for the duration, even if the work is on hold for a week or two.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Shaping Things to Come

Greetings, one and all! So, it's been a few years in coming, but I've finally gotten around to learning Blender! For those of you who don't know, Blender is an open source 3D rendering and animation software that is very good, and constantly being updated by the community, but with a very steep learning curve. The plan is to use it for a few select city shots, and a couple effects pieces, but right now I'm learning the ropes. Here's a teaser of the model I'm experimenting with...

Beyond that, the audio from last week has been synced, and we soldier on. Yeah... kinda hard to make me learning new stuff interesting, but... we're working on it.

Well, that's about all for this week. Until next time!

Returning Voices

Greetings, one and all! So, yes, the title is just another way of saying that we’re actually in ADR this week. Whatever dialog I couldn’t clean up is getting re-recorded by the cast members involved.

By the time you’re reading this, most of it should be completed, and the new phase of syncing begins. Other than that, the week proceeds as usual.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Swords in the Rain

Greetings, one and all! As we move into a new phase of post-production, there’s less long dashes of mass productivity, and more periods of fine tuning and detail work. For instance, one day I was surprised to realize that I’d just spent several hours rendering out different versions of the title sequence.

On Sunday, the team met and ran a choreography drill using shields, with one pairing setting a new record for most choreography beats developed in a half hour.

It was an interesting day that started warm and sunny, then came rain, then sun, then rain again, so the stunties were constantly shifting in and out of cover.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!

Clashes and Corrections

Greetings, one and all! Well, we’ve done it. As of today, the basic framing and color correction on Block 9 has been completed! On top of that, we’ve handled a few of the more straightforward effects in the block. I must say, after Block 8, the many varied scenes of Block 9 seemed relatively straightforward. Now that we’ve completed that, our focus turns to learning the programs that will allow us to generate the remaining effects for Blocks 8 and 9.

Sunday a smaller group met and expanded on the dueling lessons from a couple weeks ago with two teams of two going at it, and occasionally swapping opponents.

A good use of a mostly sunny (if a bit breezy,) day, and a solid next step in their screen combat education.

Well, that’s about all for this week. Until next time!
